On Sunday night I was faced with a 'what to wear' dilemma. Not uncommon, but this time it was for Curryoke. Curry and karaoke is a Glaswegian institution. I was still hungover from a party the night before so I wasn't in the mood for anything ultra glam. So I reached for this 60s mini dress I recently acquired from eBay. It is super short (in the mood of the time I suppose), so thick, opaque tights are essential. I needed operational hair, so I tied it back with this metal spiked hairband from Topshop which is my recent, favoured hair accessory.

After making the Mysterious Skin/Wendy post I had a little fun the other afternoon and played around, conceiving an outfit that Wendy, or an early 90s Dream Pop girl would probably be most pleased to wear! The 90s revival is here, so embrace it. More glitter please!

So i'm back after some academic and personal upheavals in my life recently. I'm feeling rather drained but have been listening to my summer playlist recently and with the support of my wonderful friends I'm going to aim to be more upbeat about the future and focus on me, and my accomplishments.

I'm looking forward to blogging regularly again, now that I have no university commitments, etc, in my life.
Assignments in, and I'm free to enjoy the weekend. I'm off to Edinburgh to enjoy some disco with a good friend. I hope I have a dancing partner as dashing as Mr. Ferry. I will be making the effort and wearing false eyelashes so why ever not.
It's been a grim few weeks, but I'm in a lighter mood for the meantime and even though I still have lots of pending work, I'm determined to enjoy being young! You should too. Off with you!
I watched an incredible documentary last night, Heartworn Highways. You probably don't know this (or expect it) but I love nothing better than watching a Western on a Sunday afternoon. Although unfortunately, TV schedules usually regulate them to the graveyard shift on listings. Gone are the glory days of the Western, eh. So, I record them and then watch them on a lazy Sunday.
Heartworn Highways is a documentary film by James Szalapski whose vision captured some of the founders of the Outlaw Country movement in Texas and Tennessee in the last weeks of 1975 and the first weeks of 1976. The film was not released theatrically until 1981. The film focuses on some of the major figures of the outlaw country movement of the mid-1970s. Texan troubadours Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell and a young Steve Earle all feature, performing some of their bestloved songs and discussing the stories behind the music. Anyway, this got me thinking back to a great movie I'd watched last year, Coal Miner's Daughter, with one of my favourite actresses, Sissy Spacek alongside Tommy Lee Jones. Beside not knowing much about country music at all, aside from possessing an admiration for it, I really enjoyed this bio-pic about the life of Loretta Lynn, a country and western singer that grew up in poverty in Kentucky as a coal miner's daughter to fame on the country music circuit. Spacek deservedly won the Academy Award for her role.
